My cable modem keeps reseting itself , how do i fix this ? See details for much more info.?

Question: I have been getting intermittent internet connectivity with a high speed modem from for the past seven days. when it happens the power light is always on but the connections in and out of the modem come and go, then i get the notice "network cable is unplugged " but i didn't remove any thing. I called the ISP and they walked me though a bunch of crap..involving resetting my modem, making sure everything is tight, and checking the data stream using packets. All for nothing, today i had a tech person come out to troubleshoot the problem and all he did was replace the modem. Today i have lost internet connectively 10 times, each time i get the error then windows attempt to reset the modem and assign an IP address. So i run windows network diagnostic and found out that the problem stems from the NIC card verifying my IP address. So I think it is caused by a conflict between IPs. Please help if you can provide information. I have a Webstar cable modem, and an Intel 10/100 NIC.

Answer:
I ditched my cable ISP about 4 years ago due to poor service speed at peak times, IE evenings. I switched to DSL and have never been happier. My download speed is fast...always. Look into a DSL provider before spending money on a new cable modem or service. Good luck!
Try downloading and running lspfix http://www.snapfiles.com/get/lspfix.html...

Also you may want to physically disconnect the NIC if not on the motherboard and remove the drivers from device manager. Restart and it will rebuild the hardware and software drivers for the NIC. Then go to windows update and do a custom update to find if there is an updated NIC.
