What type of paper was it?
Question: An old girlfriend of mine came looking for a job where i work and she had our front desk girl sign a piece of paper that she was looking for a job. Now she isn't unemployed now but i was wondering for what reason would someone have to get a piece of paper signed saying they were looking for work? Would it have anything to do with child support? Rehab? It struck my curiosity because i pay child support to my former wife for our kidses voluntarily and am planning to change jobs.
Have you ever been unemployed and seeking work, after you had a job? Have you ever tried to get unemployment compensation? That's where WE PAY PAYROLL TAXES to get some financial relief while unemployed but looking for another job.
The reality is that the red tape is incredible. The government is not going to pay unemployed people the money that is owed them under the law, the money that got there via the unemployment taxes we paid, just because we say we are doing what we are supposed to ... looking for work, actively searching, so therefore qualified for unemployment compensation.
You have to fill out rheems of government paperwork on a weekly basis, detailing what you are doing to try to find another job. You have to show PROOF that you are doing this.
For example, you go apply for a job some place, and they cannot take you, or they have no openings, or whatever ... well you need proof to the unemployment compensation people that you are actively looking for work. It isn't good enough to claim
"I applied for work at a bunch of companies wherever"
You have to have proof to the unemployment compensation office that you did stuff to try to locate another job, and that you did so every day.
So I kept a diary with a loose leaf notebook.
Each day, first sheet(s) had a few lines each ... where I applied, what they said, what is on-going status ... e.g. they are considering me, I should call back in a week ... a possibility may exist later, I should send them a thankyou letter & check back in a month.
Following this daily diary, was documentation substantiating this progress I was making.
Then once a week I went to the unemployment office, took 2 hours to fill out the paperwork, waited in line for 1 hour, made sure the documentation met their criteria, made sure I either had no job interview on that day of week, or made the interview in the morning, with visit to unemployment office in afternoon,
I was unemployed for 5 weeks. Initially I had a high level of confidence find another job, but then realized this might be a long haul, so I went to the unemployment office & found to my dismay that they pay, up to a maximum # weeks, from the time you apply to the time you get another job, so I lost compensation for the 2 weeks between the time I was laid off to the time I actually applied.
Then it took them 3 weeks to process their paperwork, so I did not get my first unemployment compensation check until after I was in my new job. The formula for how much I got was like 1/3 of what I was making 2 years ago.
So the lesson I learned from this is
1. If we get laid off from our job ... go to the unemployment office that next day or the very same day
2. Keep excellent records proving what we are doing to find another job ... resume work, where we go on Internet or newspaper ads or other places to locate opportunities ... what companies we visit seeking work
