My friend's NetZero will connect, but he can't open any websites. What could the problem be?

Question: He said that he can connect like normal to NetZero, but when he starts to surf the web, the pages won't load. He ran some tests and it says that the network adapters failed. One time he ran the test, and it said that the network adapters passed. He was able to surf the web for a little while, but it soon stopped working again. What could be the fix for this?

Answer:
try checking the fire wall setting, if you have it set to maximum security chances are the network wont connect, and if the network can't connect you wont get your internet, turn the fire wall off and see if that helps
Sounds like his network card is not receiving an IP address from Netzero when he connects. Could be a problem with his network card. He can try updating the driver, or he may need a whole new network adapter card.
if he has an on board network adapter, disable it in the bios and put in a pci adapter. the on board one may be fried
Is this a dial-up connection? I thought NetZero is for dial-up. If so, might the modem be the culprit, not the NIC?
