Question:
Is there any state in this country where you can get by without health insurance? I'm always dreading losing my job...not because of bills, but because of health insurance. I'd be able to take care of my basic bills if I didn't have a job, but if I lost my health insurance and got sick or in accident, wouldn't I be in debt for life? Anyway, I'm relocating in the next year and I want to take the health care system of the place into account. Any suggestions?
There is no such thing as a state medical insurance in the US. Insurance is a private company--has nothing to do with the state or government.
If you lose your job and can't get another one right away (it does happen) you can apply for assistance with your county's department of social services. If you remain unemployed or very low-income, then you could apply for Medicaid. That's it.
