Answer:
You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

I would get seperate insurance for myself like united health or something from the gov. depending on income, but for her child there should be special insurance we have all kids through blue cross blue shield here down south, hope this helps... I know ins. is high unfortunately.
To be honest with you I have always had health insurance from my husbands job except for three months when we were changing jobs. I checked with a trusted insurance agent who advised me that to get your own health insurance plan you would have to pay BIG money for it. The insurance plans that I could afford for individuals are not worth it so we just went without and prayed for the best. If your friend and her son need health insurance and they do not make much money I would suggest a state medical insurance!!Look it up on your states web page andmaybe they will qualify. Good Luck!!
You should call an insurance broker because they represent multiple insurance companies rather than just one. Many times they can also assist with placing the child in a state assisted health plan, such as "healthy families."

The insurance broker will provide you with the rates and plan descriptions from several insurance companies and assist with determining which is the best plan for your friend.
