No health insurance and pregnant?

Question:
I have health insurance with my work however tomorrow is my last day here i thought about just continuing the insurance with Copra but come to find out today that is $342 a month to do. I have looked in to the maternity card but I'm kind of secptical about that and if it is really going to save me more then then $342 a month. I also thought about getting an individual plan with an insurance carrier at only $80-$100 a month but but im already 13 weeks pregnant and seen the doctor already, I've heared they wont cover the pregnancy sicne it pre exsisting.

Any ideas would help out alot!

Answer:
You have to have coverage or your new policy, whenever it becomes effective will NOT cover you if you had a lapse in coverage. Take the Cobra. When my husband was switching jobs there was going to be a lapse in coverage and we had to bite the bullet and pay so that I would be covered. Cut corners somewhere because you do not want to take the chance of not having coverage. Good luck.
Go to the Jobs & Family Services in your area. Someone will always take care of you when youre having a sweetpea!
You can get assistance from the state called Medicaid. And your right, since you have a pre exsisting condition not insurance will let you sign up. Good luck and Congrats!
how about medicaid? They should cover you if you can't get coverage anywhere else.

I got insurance through work and I was already 7 months pregnant and they covered me with no problems
why every preg.woman here asks for samething wheter is" im preg. and dont have insurance...to...i want to get preg.but i dont have insurance".
U dont have to have isurance to be or get pregnant hun..just apply for medicaid or any other plan in the hospital and it will cover all ur exams/docs visitations/and labor.
I had to switch insurances when I was pregnant. I was told with the new health laws that changed, etc.. That pregnancy is no longer to be considered a pre-existing condition. To help matters out with you, as long as you stay covered on insurance with no lapse in coverage at all, the insurance company should not be able to deny you coverage. Do some investigating.
since you will be out of a job cant you get the medical card? medicaid? I am working and get the card as long as you qualify. Do you have it where you live?
Go to your county Department of Health and Human Services Office.
Medicaid honey. It may be called something else in your state, go to social services and ask about health services offered by the state.
You can look at your state's website. I live in Florida and every pregnant woman has the opportunity to get healthcare and foodstamps among other resources if they are residents. There is a lot of paperwork, but it is worth it. You might also have to show your incom, but you said you won't be working, so that shouldn't be a problem...
First of all, pregnancy is no longer allowed to be considered by insurance companies as a pre-existing condition. So no worries there... at least in the US.

You really should apply for Medicaid if you can't find a reasonably priced insurance plan. Cobra is ridiculous, isn't it??
Planned Parenthood or if you're in California there is Healthy Families that helps Pregnant women with Health Insurance and Insurance for the newborn.
I have not heard you will be turned down for being pregnant. Or just don't tell them when you sign up, then go see a doctor after you get the insurance.
I know it's not a good option, but try your local family services office. If you are unemployed, underinsured/no insured, low income, or a single female trying to raise a child (you qualify with doctor letter to say you are pregnant) you can get a medical card, food stamps (WIC) and both prenatal and post-natal care. Try it, for your child's sake.
Look up your local social service department. They will be able to give you valuable information you can use to figure your situation out.
I am pregnant and on COBRA too. I think your best bet would be to stay on the COBRA plan at least until the baby is born if there's any way you can. Unless you think you would qualify for government assistance and be able to get a medical card. A medical card would be free and cover your expenses fully if you qualify. That would be worth looking into. Go to your state's government page and see if you can find out the income guidelines or who to contact about it.

I couldn't really find out much information about that maternity card either, but the impression I got was that they just negotiate lower rates from the hospital, they don't really pay anything at all.

Any new insurance you would be able to get wouldn't cover maternity since you are already pregnant. The best thing for you to do is use your COBRA coverage until the birth and then look into switching to something cheaper after that if you don't qualify for assistance.
You need to apply for government assistance, also known as medicaid. Contact your local Family Independence Agency or local clinics in your area, they will be able to help you. You may have to go through some of the steps again at the doctors office to reconfirm everything. Do you still have your papers stating your due date, because you will need those, you know your confirmation of pregnancy? Also, check with your doctor since you are an established patient, and make sure they accept Medicaid. If they do not Medicaid will set you up with a doctor. It is not as difficult as it sounds and everyone will take good care of you and everything is paid for.
apply for medicaid if you are not working or you fall in the income bracket you will have free health insurance
I would suggest medicaid... my husband had a low payin job while I was pregnant and I got approved for medicaid and they take great care of you! I didn't spend a dime and if I did if it was for and ultrasound... medicaid reimbursed me!! I would also suggest WIC... they help out with food and after the baby is born they provide formula which is VERY expensive! Good luck with the baby and congrats!
you won't be covered if you try to get insurance now. Stick with cobra I know it's expensive but I was cut off by my insurance without my knowledge and and I wasn't covered for a month and I owe 10 grand due to dr. visits and blood work and u/s. $342 is def. worth it. Good luck and congrats!!
Federal law states as long as you are purchasing a health plan that covers pregnancy you can't be denied - pregnancy is not a pre existing condition. I switched jobs recently and went back to the employer I worked for before I got preg and got on their health ins w/ no problem :) Good luck!
