Does anyone realize that "affordable health care" starts with ending frivolous lawsuits?
Question:
Sometimes, we have to step back, and look at ourselves before we point fingers at someone else.
You got juries awarding hundreds of millions of dollars in some cases which doesnt even result in death.
What is the average size of a life insurance policy?
Illinois doctors are leaving some counties, and even the state because of these lawsuits.
Answer:
Good point. I hadn't thought of that, but I have heard that doctor's and I presume hospital's malpractice insurance is VERY expensive and of course they pass those costs along to us.
I don't agree that it starts with ending frivolous lawsuits, but I believe it is an essential part of the right answer.
So take the Insurance companies out of the picture and have Universal health care. That will lower the costs of prescription drugs and we won't lose any doctors unless they are truly incompetant and will be fired.
I do , frivolous lawsuits of any kind are out of control and something needs to be done
Sure. But how do you define frivolous?
The court define it as a claim having no legal basis.
Most popular definitions seem to be "anything we don't like".
But if it's a free market, then the govt should not be stepping in and setting limits on what people can sue for, or how much the insurance companies have to pay. You can't have it both ways -- either the govt sets the limits, or it's a free market.
Baloney. States across the country have enacted all sorts of legislation capping damages for pain and suffering, limiting punitive damages, making it harder for everyday folks to get adequately compensated for meritorius personal injury claims. Most of the legislation actually focuses on meritorius claims and not frivilous ones, by capping damages that can be recovered for certain sorts of injuries.
Since all of that has occurred, how much have your insurance premiums decreased? They haven't? Well where on earth can all those savings have gone?
You are right!!
Why should we even have to have doctors that have gone to universities and earned degrees?
That is government interference. I'll just hang a diploma on my wall and say I'm a doctor. Maybe I'll be fortunate enough to perform brain surgery on one of your family members. Illinois doctors are leaving Illinois because Illinois sux.
