Health Insurance for my mother in law(senior person)?
Question:
My mother in law works at a grocery retailer and gets medical insurance coverage from the employer. She wants to quit because the job is physically challenging and she wants to take care of our baby. She is 62. But we are worried because we don't know where she will get medical insurance?
1. My insurance comes from the employer. Can I put her under my insurance plan?
2. Is there any special(affordable) type of insurance plan we can purchase?
I believe this is a very common situation. If you are in the same situation, please help.
Answer:
1. You cannot add your parent to your health insurance plan. 2. You can buy a private medical policy, through an independent agent. IF your mother is in excellent health, and has nothing wrong with her, at her age it will likely cost $600 - $700 a month - not MY definition of affordable.
I think she'll likely have to keep working where she is, for the insurance, until she's old enough for medicare.
I doubt you can add your mother-in-law to your health insurance.
She might want to check with the AARP; they offer health insurance. I think for medicare/medicaid you have to be 65, but she could check there too.
It would be sweet if grandma could take care of your baby rather than daycare!

Honestly there are some insurances that if you have a senior parent you can add them to your insurance if you show you take care of them... Good luck..
You can only put a spouse & children on your employer plan. She may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get her the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.
