Why does national health care work in Canada and not in the US?
Question:
Answer:
Because the people and the govenrment are committed to making it work.
The people of the United States are not.
We've never tried it here in the U.S. so how do you know that it won't work?
good question they dont spend billions of dollars on defense like we do so they have more money for social programs not just health care but dental daycare.Germany to we protect everyone.
Sure, some people go to jobs, some people get treated, some get better.by that definition socialized medicine works.it's just not the best medical treatment one can get. If you want the best, keep it private.
I live in Houston, Texas. our medical center here is enormous and one of the best in the world. People come here from all over the world including plenty of Canadians seeking treatment at one of our cancer hospitals or heart hospitals. So, seems like it might not be all that it's cracked up to be in Canada if you are terminally ill.
If health care is working in Canada, why are Canadian crossing the border to seek medical health.
I been in the hospital in Canada, it sucks.
who says the canadian healthcare system works? and if it does why do so many of them come to the U.S. and pay full price for treatment?
Because one is run by Canadians.
Hello?! Have you ever actually TALKED to someone from Canada about their national health care system? How about how much taxes they pay, or how long the waiting list is to get life-saving tests & proceedures done?
I have a friend who immigrated to the US years ago, and worked very hard to get his US citizenship. He calls Canada the "People's Republic of Canada". In other words, like the USSR when it was communist.
Does the US citizen really want nationalized health care? Do they want some bureaurocrat to decide who their doctor should be, if they should get an EKG or an MRI or any other life saving tests? Or how about when their child is injured and goes into a coma...would you really want a government bureaurocrat deciding to pull the plug because they don't want to pay the money for long-term health care? (friends' 2 year old in a coma).think about it.
It may sound very tempting right now.you're probably very young and haven't yet established a good job where you get decent benefits.however, there is absolutely NO REASON anyone in the US shouldn't be wealthy by retirement age. We are still the Land of the Free & the Home of the Brave.be brave, don't give up your freedoms. Work hard, you can be & do anything in this country!
Well it helps that Canada is a Socialist country. They pay incredibly high taxes and yes everyone is covered for health care and every kid can go to a state college for free. However, considering that the US is about 10 X larger in population and that we are not a Socialist society as of yet, it is not our government's job to make sure you have health insurance. That is left up to every individual.
Now can it work in the US, sure, but why would we want it to? Personally, I'm not for having 100% health coverage in this country. We don't need to raise taxes and put more ridiculous programs in the hands of our government which cannot even run itself on budget. How the hell do you think they would be a managing 300 million people's health care? I'll guarantee you it will be run like Walter Reed Hospital where the cheaper things can be done the better. It won't be what's best for the people, it'll be what saves the government a buck or two so they can spend the money we pay in for medical care on another war or some other stupid program like welfare or enforcing ridiculous laws already on the books. It'll end up being run like Social Security where they'll take money out of it to fund other projects and won't repay it.
All you have to know about how the government might run health care is seen in all the other things they can't manage now. We need to take things back from the government because they are obviously overloaded with work and put things back in the hands of the people, who by the way, tend to run things in a much more efficient and effective manner than the government.
All that and the health care system would become so diluted that the care given to patients would worsen with every day. Doctors make the kind of money they make for a reason...THEY SAVE LIVES! They deserve to make what they make and bringing the government into the situation may turn it into something like teaching. Teachers should make more money, but they don't because education is run by the government. Thus, since we have teachers making pennies there are very few qualified people who want to teach because they know they can make more money doing other things...like becoming a doctor. You don't want to have the same effect on health care standards as we have on teaching standards.
If there is anything I forgot to mention I apologize for that, but I believe I've given you a couple reasons why it wouldn't necessarily be a good thing for the US to have universal health care. Thanks and have a nice day.
LEss fraud and kickbacks in Canada.
Because three time national health care has been before the US Congress.
In 1973, 1978 and 1994.
All three times, Congress blocked the bills in committee and did not let them get voted on.
Now , heres the surprise.
All three times, we had a Democrat majority in Congress.
Twice we had a Democrat President too.
As for myself, I think we should worry about food, shelter and clothing before we worry about health care.
No one blinks an eye about people having to pay $1,200 for a 600 sq foot apartment in many places.
But then get mad, that people might have to pay $300 for health care.
Who says it works in Canada?
the main reason i belive is ambition. national helath care limits the charges on procedures and medications that professionals can charge. this tends to lessen the ambition of a person to be the best at what they do because they are rewarded the same as the middle of the class. this is a capitalist society and one of the principles of that is that you are rewarded for your achievements. the national health care system would stifle that work/reward process and only pay flat prices to everyone that performed the same services.
