Why is HEALTH CARE in the US so INEFFICIENT & EXPENSIVE?

Question:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/healthcare_us...

Looks like privatization of health care didn't do any good. The best health care is by countries with state-own health care.

What are Cons to say now that these FACTS are presented?

Answer:
Because no thought is given to all the people who don't have health insurance. Yes, health care in the United States is good, but if not everyone has access to it, than it's never going to compare to countries like France (which the WHO has rated the best in the world) and Germany.

Some people seem to have a misconception that people in countries with socialized health care can't have private insurance well. Many people in the UK have private insurance and get around things like approval for treatments, etc. Unfortunately there, the quality of the NHS has gone down since they started privatizing it.

Anyway, I'd rather live in a country where I pay higher taxes and am secure in the knowledge that everyone can go to the doctor if they need to, and that I'll never have to go without health care for lack of money. Sadly, it seems that if the US ever does decide to do something about universal health coverage, it's going to end up pandering to the insurance companies and costing the taxpayers way more than it's worth.

Personally, I think that in any country, if your government has footed the bill for your med school training whether through grants or government subsidized education, you should be required to serve where they need you to for a certain period of time.

As for people who say it doesn't work--you're wrong. It does. It's working all over Europe. I live in the UK. I've been treated in Greek hospitals. Trust me, it works. Sure, people have their gripes about the system, but at least they have a system. That's better than the same people griping that they can't see a doctor at all, or going into bankruptcy because of a serious illness.
It is a multibillion $ business, and I agree, healthcare sucks.

Btu if you compare Canadian healthcare to ours, do you still think that ours is inefficient?
Come to wisconsin its not anymore we have done it. You will be taken care of here. But you will pay taxes for it.
LOL. You have obviously never gotten health care in another country.

And although healthcare is in some ways currently privatized, excessive state government regulation has led to a lack of competition for insurance companies, thus leading to higher premiums.

I wonder what the idiots who support UHC will say in 25 years when we are paying 40-60% of our incomes in taxes and waiting for three weeks for basic care.

Edit: BTW, another reason American health care is so expensive is that we pay for the R&D of drug companies. Although this seems unfair, consider the consequences of state sponsored price negotiations. You can wave bye bye to new drugs and treatments.
First fo course it is the higest quality, that is why rich people from nations with state owned health care come to the US for treatment.

But law suits is the issue in America, as long as people can sue for evey reason, and win millions when there are reasons. In a good state owned system, if they cut off the wrong arm, you get I am sorry, not a billion dollars.

And in most state owned system, I understand that the wait to get into a doctor is long, ( US citizens would never accept the government telling them when they can see a doctor) and also the governemnt controls what type of treatment they get, and if they get treated.
what facts? with my six figures a year i can get my oan health insurance...that is what some cons say. the problem is that a lot of cons vote as if they are in the higher income bracket when they are not. they vote their "moral conscience" as opposed to voting for what may make sense for them economically and otherwise.
the republicans own god and country some how, and even those votes that are butt reamed for the conservativism cannot see it through the shadows of the church steeple.
So the reason Canadians and Cubans come to the USA when in dire straits is because ? The UK NHS is a disaster as well as the French National health service ( hence the reason Sarkozy was voted in to curb the Socialism and rebuild France). And the reason Castro needed a Spainish (From Spain) Doctor to work on him was another nail in the Cuban HC Myth? You want to be treated Like a Cow feeel free to move. The reason we Have so many Doctors in America Is Because they Leave the NHS's of the world to Make Money commie boy.....
Really interesting. Missed that story; thanks.

I'm concerned, however, that socialized health care will be even further abused by illegals and added incentive for them to sneak into our country. We already provide free education, clinics and health care -- in addition to bi-lingual services -- all of which place an extraordinary drain on the legal taxpaying citizen, and create a drag on our economy and efficiency, as a whole.
If everybody had government ins. the people who save our lives wouldnt be getting paid enough to care any more. That means the guy doing heart surgery on your son, or who ever, will only be getting paid like 15 bucks an hour, that doesnt sound safe to me.
the liberals took over.
It is expensive because it is the best health-care on Earth. It isn't insufficient. Move to England, and ask the English people why they have to wait 3 weeks at the least to see a doctor, unless they're on their death bed.
American doctor's don't screw up and tell a patient they have cancer, and only have 3 months to live, unless it's true. They do in England with their inexperienced doctors. Didn't you read about the English man who spent his life savings on a holiday thinking he was dying? English doc's told him that. He is now a poor man, living in a gutter. Thank you Universal Health Care! Hillary, give me some more of your love!
Because in the US, the Big Pharma gets the last word.
It isn't my business but doctors actually go to Cuba because the US system is so rotten.
I suggest to those talking about 'illegals' to hold their tongues. It was the pilgrims who stole half of Mexico and it will be us who stick around when we get our country back. Then we will have single payer, and the pilgrims will be able to come and visit.
If you people want a system that favors the rich over the poor. So be it. Although sincerely it is one thing to be oppressed by others and a whole 'nother thing to defend those who oppress you. It is so. Uncle tommish of the US population to defend insurance and big pharma at the stake of your own health.
But then again, this is a country that has never been known for its intellectual achievements, if you know what i mean.
Let the cattle prodding begin. Is that what you truly want? I don't.

It does NOT work.
The worst health care in the world is government run health care. The US has the most efficient and advanced health care in the world. If you think it is expensive now, it would be nothing compared to socialized medicine. There is a very good reason why the US is the only industrialized nation without it, we tend to be leaders not followers.
The system is pretty broken here in the USA.

First of all people have bought the tale that we have the best healthcare in the world. We have great healthcare but so does France( probably the best and free ), the germans and the Swiss to name a few.

Second, the average healthcare for profit provider in the USA has 25% administrative overhead, quite ineffecient with privatized insurance averaging about 5%.

Thirdly, for profit systems squeeze the income of the Docs and medical providers to maximize profits which means they also charge as much as the market will bear. There is no incentive to trim fees, in fact it is just the opposite.

The USA needs universal one provider healthcare in an American model.
it would be even worse if it were socialized. it would not be evenly spread as clueless liberals hope.
Do you think handing our healthcare over to the same people who manage our DMV or VA Medical Centers is going to improve the quality any?
You should check other sources. One source hardly indites an industry. America has the most advanced procedures, the most advanced medicine, and the best educated doctors.

When it comes to necessary procedures, American surgeons are the best, and have the lowest morality rate. The reasons for the increased costs are due to our increased preventative care costs.

KOOKO, you should honestly read more than one source on this. Government rated plans across the world become more and more bankrupt everyday. Look at the economic damage the entitlement process has done to Germany, for example.
No on in the US can be turned down for medical care if they have insurance or not that is another reason the hospital cost are so high. So no where in the US are are the doctors turning people out to die.The big problem is the malpractice insurance our doctors have to pay
