Question:
I am a young adult without health insurance. I would like to make an appointment with a nurse practioner. Where would i need to go to ask questions about health care coverage and eligbility? Would it be my local health department/welfare services? Would Planned ParentHood cover my doctors visit and diagnosis?
Answer:
You go to a local independent agent, if you want to buy health insurance. It should run you around $200 to $250 per month.
If you're low income, you can see if you qualify for Medicaid - welfare health insurance.
Or you can find a job with health insurance benefits - that's what MOST people do.
Planned parenthood provides sexual health related items on a sliding scale fee based on income. It's NOT a health insurance plan.
Depending on how much money you make, you could be covered under a state health insurance company similar to medicare. that's the case for NY anyway, it's called Family Health Plus here, or Healthy NY. Look it up online! Good luck.
