Husband with no future plan?

Question:
My husband who is 56 and an attorney, had no retirement plan, no disability plan (solo practice), no life insurance, no long term care, no savings, and his home business is so disorganized it is frightening. He also can never seem to get his business off the ground and wont advertise or do anything to promote it. I finally made him a website and he is getting some clients but very few. I work for the state and make good money and have retirement for myself, disability, and am getting a long term care plan. We have been together 12 years and just got married last fall. He now has health insurance through me but even though he agreed to get coverage for all the rest he still hasnt done it. What is going to happen to me later on if he becomes disabled and what if he has no retirement?
I know this does sound terrible but the best thing you can do is fend for yourself by getting a job around the area that entitles you to those coverages. Survival of the fittest, only way you can get out of the situation is by winning the lottery or marrying someone else.
Hope you had a pre-nup.
He needs to get motivated about getting things done.

I'm guessing he isn't too motivated because you're always there to catch him when he falls.

I wonder if you need to let him alone and see how he does on his own for awhile.

This is a frustrating situation, I know. But perhaps there's a deeper issue to this, such as depression. Maybe your question will fare better in the Mental Health section.
I think at age 56 his habits are fully entrenched and he's not going to change. I'm 50, never married, and stubborn as a mule.
Oh lord. I don't suppose I should ask why you married this guy?

Try counseling. If that doesn't get him off his butt, I suggest you file for divorce before he destroys you financially and leaves you destitute in old age.
