Health Teacher for Highschool?

Question:
I am going to college right now, majoring in Health/ Minor in Kinesiology. My Dream job would be to just teach the required health class all high school students must take. I love health and love kids and the idea of having school holidays off is very attracting!!

My question is, At my higschool, ( small town) our health teacher was also a P.E. Teacher ( or gym class teacher, whatever you wanna call it) I do not want to teach gym class or coach. I want to focus on the textbook aspects of health and remain in the classroom!

I am planning on moving to the Dallas, TX area after i graduate and obtain my teachers certificate through our local Education Service Center. I was just wondering if all health teachers MUST also teach a Gym class or coach. I JUST want to be Health teacher, so i wanted to see if that was an option!!

Also, what are other places i can teach health at?
My high school has 2 health teachers. One teaches gym, and one only teaches health. So, i guess it could go either way. Sorry i couldnt help more.
At my school the Family & Consumer Sciences teacher is the one who teaches health. In our State, this position requires a vocational certificate and qualifies the teacher to teach a wide range of subjects such as the cooking class, careers in education, etc.

Many states also allow you to teach a certain subject without having a teaching degree (we are talking about vocational subjects) as long as you have x amount of hours of experience in the subject. Check with your State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
I taught Health exclusively at a large high school in Colorado, so yes it is possible. You will have apply to large schools that have a need for a full time Health teacher. Also I dont know how easy it is going to be for you to get hired. I say give it a try if you are really excited about it because it is possible!
I currently live in North Texas.

My high school health teachers were also athletic coaches... however, we do have other teachers in the school that only teach math, history, or whatever that commute among the schools in my district. I live in a smaller city, so the drive is not bad among the schools. Some of the teachers work at one or both of the middle schools as well as one or both of the high schools. (i.e. They would teach 1, 2nd period at the high school then go to a middle school and teach a health class or two there)

You might be able to get a job only teaching health if the district you go into allows you to go between different schools during the day and teach classes at the different schools.

Hope that made sense...
