How is the health care in other countries where it is free?
Question:
I am from Canada and I think it is a good thing. We still choose who our doctor is, so that would not change. The only disadvantage is the wait time for non-emergency surgery, which can take up to 18 weeks in some cases. Overall though, I think it is very positive. Nobody is left with huge hospital bills and everyone can get the care they require. I think it is time America switched to this system.
I am from the UK but have been living in America for fifteen years. For the first time I have had to think about healthcare and purchasing it. In the UK people pay higher taxes but healthcare is free so I recon if you added your tax and health insurance premium together you are better off in the UK. Here in the US I have heard it say that people have to wait etc etc. I have never had to wait for an appointment and also the doctor will come to you in a home visit. I had health problems and was in hospital a lot for a number of years, I can't imagine what it would be like having to worry about the cost of care, as well as getting better. Havingsaid that doctors and nurses are in no way paid as highly as in the US. I think that medicine in Briatain then attracts a different type of person, forget it if you are looking to make a fortune or have status, it attracts people you really want to care for others in an altruistic way.
