Actually, the VA has military benefits, pity they get treated that way isn't it?
I am on medicare and refused to do anything but the original medicare because that systems allows me to SELECT MY OWN PHYSICIANS, HOSPITALS, it does limit coverage i.e. extra coverage, either from retirement OR
AARP or any other agency that would pick up the difference in costs.
But the Care of a VET -- wow here they give their lives, body parts for us -- and the treatment they get is still worse than a convict gets in prison -- what's wrong with this picture?
No, their plans would be like the healthcare plans that they (the senators, congressmen, president etc) are are offered. Bush cut the veterans administration healthcare right when our troops were coming home and needing care. No self respecting liberal would do this.
Yes that is a good point. Considering the fiasco earlier in the year about a military hospital I wouldn't think that would be a great idea.

I am surprised that you would say that honestly. When I have dealt with the VA I have had nothing but good things to say about them. The doctors were courteous, kind, and very helpful. They treated me with more respect than I have ever gotten from my regular doctor.
Now, ARMY doctors on the other hand, don't even get me started. I had a temp of 104 and they made me stand in line at parade rest for about 3 hours. When I finally passed out they figured out that maybe that wasn't such a good idea.

Exactly. All you have to do is go to a big city hospital's emergency room and look around. It will be filled with illegals and others that have no insurance. Now think about how things will work when you are in that line behind them. In England, they have free health care. If you have cancer, you just get put on a list for surgery. You don't get surgery until they get to your name. You may be dead by then or you may get lucky and others ahead of you will die so you will move up in time to save your life. It is minimal care for the masses. You better stay healthy if they go to universal health care because you won't get any services. (Only the very rich will have good health care. They will go to private clinics).
The universal health care system would still allow the purchase of insurance at the buyer's discretion. Where did you get the idea that insurance wouldn't be allowed? The VA debacle is a result of the republican party diverting funds to supplement their war so How you get these thoughts are beyond logic.
the democrats are exhorting single payer health care not nationalized or socialized health care. single payer health care doesn't operate like the VA.the govt. will not own hospitals, doctors or nurses.private medical institutions and doctors will still be around. It's mirrored after France's single payer healthcare which has the number one healthcare system in the world. If it works for France, then it can work for America.

just as easily as you say you had a "bad experience"... the lady who died in the LA hospital's familiy that's been all over the news could say they had a "bad experience" in a regular hospital and use it to condemn the current system just as easily...
this isn't about "one person's horror story" because EVERY SYSTEM has horror stories no matter how good it is... and I've heard many from our current American system too, but that doesn't really prove anything either way...
according to studies I've seen, the hospitals in some socialist nations are just as safe, if not safer in some respects as American ones... (especially with infection rates) but there are some problems sometimes... of course...
all I know is I know a few people that don't have health insurance that would love to have any health care, even VA quality...
No, unless you can point to a single example of a plan involving the government running of hospitals and clinics. The universal health care plans I have heard about are for making health insurance and health care costs more affordable and user-friendly to average Americans.
If you believe that people should have to scramble to find doctors in their network when they change jobs (or their employers decide to change insurance companies), and unemployed and self-employed people should pay a small fortune for health insurance, then you won't like these plans.
Its obvious no one answering this question knows anything about the VA healthcare system. Allow me to shed some light on the subject. The VA healthcare system is in no way shape or form like Universal Healthcare. I work at a VA hospital. Most people who come to the VA have health insurance. The VA bills insurance companies, I mean where do you think all the money comes from? The only people who get free medical at the VA are people who are service connected for a condition or injury that happened to them while serving in the Armed forces. And also returning soldier from OIF/OEF, they get 2 years of free medical care. There are some people who don't have to pay like people who make only $16,000 a year total. But most have a co-pay of $50, or whatever their insurance co-pay is. Don't get the idea that the VA is a give-away program, because it is most certainly not that.
