Which plan is better for Anthem health insurance : "PPO" OR "HMO"?

Question:
I'm healthy man and will start cu boulder on next semester.

Answer:
Typically, a PPO will cost less per month, but have higher copays and deductibles. The HMO will have lower copays and deductibles, but cost more per month.

We have an HMO. We've got kids, and kids get sick. We see the doctor regularly. So it's more cost effective for us to have the HMO.

If you're single, and see the doctor once a year or less, it's probably going to be more cost effective to have the PPO.

But run the numbers, see what happens.
It really depends on what you want to pay in premiums vs. out of pocket expenses-and the choices you want to have regarding your treatment if something were to happen to you. If you've never had any problems and want to save some money-go with the HMO---On the other hand if you like being able to choose your own doctor/hospital/and want to decide what treatment you want versus a corporation deciding what would be cost effective-go for the PPO. Anthem does offer a PPO plan that you can have 3 Doctor visits a year with a $20.00 co-pay for around $55.00 a month (in WI at least) You might be able to get a cheaper HMO plan from the state of CO ( If you're under the income limits-and fit their qualifications) Basically it's all up to the kind of medical care you want/need-and whether or not you want someone else to have the decison making ability over your health.
Because you are going to be a student, I would recommend the PPO - the reason being is that the HMO's are normally region specific. With the PPO you will have access to nationwide hospitals and doctors through the Blue Card Network.

Also, because you are young, I would recommend the Tonik plans that Anthem offers - they cover generic only drugs, have a $40 co-pay and include some dental benefits in the premium.

Good luck!
Well it depends
HMO means that you MUST to see doctors within the local area that policy is in to be covered by the insurance
PPO means that you can see certian doctors thoughtout the united states

it's all about location...HMO WILL restrict you to ONE area!

Not many people know that..I work in that field!
If you are looking for a group plan it will depend on how healthy the group is. I would suggest having a dual option.

If you are going for the individul product and you say you are healthy I would sugest looking at other carriers. Anthem can be a little on the $$ side.

Try Consumers Life Insurance Company. They are owned by Medical Mutual of Ohio and they have awewome PPO and HSA products. Each plan is designed to mimic a group plan (ex: low ded., office visit copay of $25, urgent care copay of $25, the $2500 ded. is 100% after ded, Rx, dental, and vision).
