the whole system's been spiraling out of control for years... and those "compensations" are pretty normal in healthcare if you know anything about it... it's a billion dollar business...
and beyond that he's never had enough support in congress to even bother trying... we have enough "show off bills" that will never go anywhere and waste enough time as it is...
now... is it good? not exactly... but I think your expectations for what he could have done... are clearly unrealistic...

All hospitals overcharge uninsured patients. Or conversely, HMOs, PPOs, and Insurance carriers are leveraging their size to negotiate for discounts. Cash customers can also negotiate a lower price.

Obama's support for the union is a good thing.
Most political candidates receive donations from hospitals, businesses, unions, Law Firms, you name it. Too many thousands of different contributors to be aware of exactly who the contributors are. It doesn't matter. It would be best if the contributors were anonymous, just like voters.
