Why do we understand that a healthy military requires good preventative health care?
Question:
Answer:
I don't think a national health plan is a good idea. You only have to look at the mess Medicare and Medicaid has made to see that.
Last year my state went ~4 mo without paying it's Medicaid bills, our hospital had major problems with that since 30% of our patients are on Medicaid, we had a hiring freeze, tryed to reduce spending, etc. It was a nightmare. What do you do when the governement refuses to pay it's bill? You can't refer it to a collection agency.
I have also had to deal with Medicaid when they didn't want to approve something. The doctor considered a particular test medically necessary for 1 patient. It took 2 mo. going back and forth between the doctor, pharmacy, and Medicare before we could get this patient's test approved. If waiting 2 mo. for a diagnostic test isn't poor health care I don't know what is.
This question really makes you think more along the lines of, it's too bad we don't do the military like in the seventeenth century when it was disastrous for countries to go to war. It'd curb the armchair hawks considerably as well as the spooks who don't do anything.
( Those clowns are total freaks. In a lot of cases, punks. At least the commie Beria knew what to do with them. )
How many of you grunts wanna give a AAaaawwwrrooo! on that? Stand up and be counted. While you're still standing.
You obviously have never been subjected to the "good preventative health care" that you state the military has! I am a military spouse and I can assure you that civilian health care is typically much better.
I agree that a national health plan would be beneficial - i believe canada has some program like this in place but I would not dog on the military until you have been subjected to the care! Especially with what these men and women are doing for everyone - I assure their benefits/health care/pay does not cover the risk they put their lives in overseas.
As for the obesity and all the diseases associated with obesity - a lot of that can only be blamed on ourselves - we are the ones that choose to not be active or eat that big mac. I am not sure it is fair to try to think if we have a national health plan america will be healthier. I think people will continue to eat horrendously and be obese either way.
