Should the US Military Health Plan pay for abortions in the case of malformation of the fetus?

Question:
So, I was listening to the radio & heard this awful story about a Navy wife who got pregnant, then a few months into it, her doctors discovered that the fetus was growing, but had no brain stem, which means it would continue to grow in her womb to term, but would not have any chance of surviving past birth.

So, the Navy Health Plan would only pay for termination of a pregnancy if it was to protect the life of the mother... but she was going to be physically fine up to term... but could you imagine carrying a child to term only to know that it would certainly die at birth? Not almost certainly, but absolutely certain.
What kind of mental health impact would that have on the mother & family?
Does this restriction on pregnancy termination make sense to you?

****
GOD performs abortions a lot, they're simply called miscarriages. So, if "god" has determined that this being will not see one minute of life past birth, is it morally wrong to terminate before birth?

Answer:
The government can't pay for an abortion for military personnel because it won't pay for one for poor civilians. Can you imagine the uproar it would create throughout our society among both conservatives and liberals?
No
Honey that is really a hard question. Because we cannot KNOW that the baby will die. We cannot know what will happen. If God is responsible for miscarriages, then why not just 'kill' the ones who not going to live or to the females who are not capable of taking care of them? Why take babies away from moms who are ready and want a baby? I am just playing devils advocate here, not saying I agree. I believe insurance company's should pay for something like this or even a tubal. I am just trying to help you see things from another point of view.

I was writing this as you were updating.
No I can not like or imagine the Navy doing this. My hubby was in the Navy also, but they took good care of us. After 3 boys I could not imagine carrying full term KNOWING the baby was dead or going to die. That would kill me as well.
Oh, boy this is one of those tricky hot button deals.

Skipping the debatable, I don't think most civilian policies cover abortions ethier. No brain stem? Crap, bad break. She will just have to pay out of pocket for it.
I believe that IT IS MORALLY WRONG TO TERMINATE
ANY PREGNANCY, AT ANY STAGE "OF THE PREG-
NANCY !
My sister, birthed a child, whose skull was missing on about
1/3 of the head, and she birthed the baby, and the hospital
did the adjustments for the repair to the skull, and the baby
lived, to adulthood, and is doing well, with a Profession,
but does have a slight Malfunction of the brain, that does
attribution to a Slight %, of Attention Deficit Disorde.
I would not suggest that a pregnancy be terminated.
THERE'S ALWAYS "HOPE" WHERE THE "SPIRIT/SOUL"
IS CONCERNED.
I wasn't supposed to have the last baby, I had, so I did
pray, AND HAD FAITH, that her birth, would Serve some
Purpose in Life, AND IT HAS, FOR IT WAS THROUGH
HER ILLNESS, that Others have been helped, WHEN
WE FOUGHT FOR HER ''RIGHTS'', NOT TO BE JAILED.,
AND MISTREATED BY LEGAL OFFICIALS.
I had 3 "Spontaneous Abortions". My body got to nervous,
and aborted the babies. Stress had a lot to do with it.
I would think, that the Military, HAS NO RIGHT, TO ABORT
A BABY (PREGNANCY),
I would NEVER CONSENT, for that to be done, NO MATTER
THE EXPENSE.
My daughter's ex was in the military, and even then, the
military families, WERE FORCED TO APPLY FOR "DHS"
ASSISTANCE...AND MEDICAL COVERAGE.
If I was an Enlisted Military Person, and this incident came
up, I would ASK FOR AN EMERGENCY DISCHARGE, so
I could MOVE OFF BASE, or get as far away, from that
situation as Possible.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE "MAN OF THE HOUSE
HOLD, TO BE HELD RESPONSIBILE, FOR THE WEL-
FARE OF HIS WIFE, AND CHILDREN, EVEN THE UN-
BORN ONES !!
Urrrg,that would be awful.

It doesnt make much sense, and i agree it would have an impact on her mental health,i mean you are carrying around this baby that is basicly dead.WHat an awful feeling.

Also if it didnt have a brain stem, wouldnt it not be able to feel any pain?Or anything for that matter? Any one below me,please feel free to tell me otherwise.
