Should our next president freeze the salary of congress and reverse benefits a more affordable plan?
Question:
Should our children and grandchildren be expected to support every congressmen at a much hire standard than the average tax payer will recieve?
Answer:
it wouldn't hurt to have our congressmen drive their own economy car to go get some Krystal's at the drive-thru every once in a while. I think the pay they get shouldn't be so lucrative, they accomplish nothing, they don't represent their people, and there isn't as much incentive to "do the right thing" as there is to "do what the rich person wants us to do."
I think states should decide how much their "representatives" get paid.
I think this president should freeze their salaries. I think the fact that they voted themselves a raise in the midst of a hugely unpopular program showed very bad judgment on their part.
Bush can freeze their salaries through a veto of this legislation. I am sure the Democratic leadership has packed the salary increase into a piece of legislation that would be hard to veto like military funding.
Reagan didn't have the power to freeze Congressional salaries. He convinced Congress to do so. The president does not control the money in the US it is controlled by Congress. You seem to be caught up in the president as dictator mood of many these days. The president doesn't have the power to do that kind of stuff. Actually we will see improvements in all the programs you mention and more. Finally this nation will move forward again. With Democrats at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue we can stop stepping backward or being stagnant and make progress toward restoring our good name in the world and making life better for all of our citizens.
All these are god ideas. I feel strongly about a universal medical plan for the USA, so I hope the next President isnt in the big drug company's pocket. If you need some background on the subject, I highly recomend that everyone sees Roger Moore's new film "Sicko".
Yes, absolutely! I think until there is honest debate about health care reform (fees for medical coverage and out of pocket medications) without the lobbyists and special interest groups involved there won't be any real change in our system. If congress and there respective immediate family members had to pay for their own medical coverage or had a mickey mouse semi-coverage plan like the ones most Americans are forced to participate in they would sing a different tune.
