American Health Care!?
Question:
you must be really bored
I don't give a sh*t about inmates. They get free health care. I do feel that the elderly are robbed. They have worked their whole lives and sometimes have to choose between food or meds. They eat cat food just to afford their meds. That is a disgrace. No elderly person should have to do that. When it comes to medical issues I agree with the Socialists.
Good question. I've been asking this publicly for years.
I can't quote numbers but I remember hearing that when Scott Peterson was sentenced it was said that we (the general public) would be paying for his meals, insurance, and general upkeep for years until he died. A lot of families in the general population do not have insurance and if they have children that require medication or hospitilizations that parents skip paying things like bills and sometimes food for themselves just to make sure their children get the help they need.
I'm not really sure what happened to American health care over the years but it is my feeling that there are the haves and have nots and that's not right.
I don't really want to talk about my personal situation in public but I do know that people making a "decent" living (well above poverty) can't afford insurance for the family every month. Life seems to be a big catch 22 for them and they would be more than glad to find a way out. Fortunately every one has different talents and passions in life and these don't always come with a 6 digit income or any where close to it or health insurance. Short of socialism, I'm not sure what I would do to fix it. (I'm not for socialism except in theory it sounds nice... not actually) I hope that healthcare can become more accessible. I know that one time I went to the health department and they were going to charge me more than my actual doctor. (there is a 25% uninsured discount at my drs office) Maybe we could stop giving out so much medicaid and have some sort of public health plan, it is as important as say... schools... which, we won't even go there tonight. I don't know the answer at all, but yes inmates have more access to doctors than I do. I don't think you are bored to think about problems that the country may potentially have, I think it is honorable to think of other people's potential struggles.
I'm against a totally nationalized health care system. However I do believe that we should give the working poor the option to receive good health coverage at little or no cost. My idea would essentially give someone the option to enroll in a top private insurance plan (like the ones offered by some employers) of their choice and the amount of the premium would be subsidized to a certain amount on a sliding scale based upon their income. Those whose income falls upon the bottom of the income scale would pay nothing, while those at the top would pay roughly 25% of the cost.
This would be a strictly optional program that would be available to working people making under $50,000 per year for a family of 4.
I wouldn't mind my tax dollars going to that! Just don't make me pay for EVERYONE in the country to get health care!
Nelson Mandela spoke in Mass. several years ago and said that an effective leader will let the weak go first and the strong will follow -- in order to bolster the weak. In our system, we let the weak fall. We MUST change our health care system, as it is inhumane. In 20 years, people will look back and say, "How could they have lived like this? How could they have done this to the sick?"
I support Universal Health Care for Mass. and suggest that yahoo group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/uhc...
Yes the working poor have less access than inmates, especially the ones that R caught in the middle, the ones that make to much for some programs out there and to poor to buy their own medical insurance. I think doctors etc should have their wages capped. They R greedy and think they R worth more then they R. Whatever happened to the Hippocratic oath. Doctors R not doctors because they care they R in the biz, because they make BIG bucks. Doctors R making so much more mistakes then they Used to and costing more lives. Some abuse drugs and alcohol, now ain't that scary. I have seen more nurses make better decisions then doctors. I will give you this clinic and hospital R getting more and more crowded, now if they made more hospitals and more clinics and cut back on so much unnecessary paper work, thing could begin to look up. I worked in a nursing home and I never seen so much paper work in my life, think they spent more time on the governments forms and other paper work then they did with the residents. I do not know why we even have medical charts, very rarely does the doctor look at them, the nurse gave him the condensed version and you fill in the blanks. I want to know where is the care in the Health Care.
American Health Care Sucks. I am the working poor. I have 2 kids and I am single. I only make about a grand a month take home. My insurance through my job costs nearly $200 a month and I have a $500 deductible. I am 38 years old and I doubt very seriously if I will ever meet my deductible, I don't go to the doctor often. I was actually better off when i didn't have health coverage because my kids qualified for medicaid and they were covered at no cost to me.
My oldest hasn't been to the doctor yet this year and she is 13. My youngest (age6) had a respiratory infection early in the year and that is it. I am scared to death to be without insurance but I can't afford it.
What do you do when you can't afford the insurance but can't afford not to have it? What do you do when you accumulate a high deductible but can't afford to pay it off? What do you do when the doctors are clueless and you could probably treat yourself better than they do.
Inmates are in an environment that keeps a health care person in there so they are seen regularlly with any complaint. Working poor have their freedom but no insurance sometimes so they are turned away. There are some very very big faults with out health care system. Either you have to be very rich and afford or very poor and have NOTHING so you can qualify for Medicaid. Older people have medicare 62 or older usually. But the workng force has nothing or either has group insurance with the place they work at. If you watch the movie "Sicko" by MIcheal Moore you will get a taste of the problems but this movie is not completely accurate.
Many things have gone wrong with American health care.
Insurance premiums keep going up and the benefits keep going down. Doctors are not geeeetting paid on time. That is reality.
Have you heard of the alternative? CDHC.
People have affordable monthly payments , no waiting period and huge savings. I am doing my part to help people. The poor and the sick with pre-existing conditions have access to health care with these programs now. We fix the problem one person at a time and one company at a time. Thank God for CDHC!
1) run by insurance companies and their lobbyists
2) the majority of Americans have never cared enough to change it
3) too much money spent on technology and not enough on the un- and under - insured.
Socialize it - see Michael Moore's newest movie, "Sicko" It is about US medical care, insurance, and what British citizens have to say about their health care system.
40 it has been my experience that inmates (of jails, anyway) get much better medical care than the working poor.
I just realized that I didn't have anything positive to say about this. Go figure.
