Is universal health care (socialise medicine) the answer?
Question:
As a person that has lived in both England and Canada I think I have a unique perspective, I am aware of positive like most people of universal health care, but here is the negative
Taxes will go up astronomically to cover this.
There will be rationing of health care period.
People will be allowed to die either thru rationing or delay.
You will unable to sue the government for neglect or malpractice.
The government could make it illegal for you getting treatment that you will pay for out of your own pocket like in Canada.
The most inept doctors will end up working for the government
the best will always head for private duty(more money)
The invasion of our health clinics and ER rooms with illegals and with every minor ailments if you think the wait is long now wait!!
Are those of you that are advocates are you ready for this do you think it will be worth it
Answer:
Imagine Health Care with the efficiency of the Post Office and the customer service of the IRS
Scary!
Universal Health care is certainly not the answer and thank you for sharing your personal experience.
Well i live in Scotland and i disagree with this. Sure the NHS isn't perfect, not by a long way but at least it allows every person to get free health care no matter there income. You listed alot of negatives in your question but compare that to millions of people dying because they cant afford health insurance and you can get an idea of perspective. Every country that has a state health service, no matter what political party they belong to know and love the advantages of the health system, no matter the disadvantages.
Taxes are already high. I'd rather they go for health than corporate welfare and the war machine.
Health care is already rationed.
People are already dying because of the current system.
You can't win malpractice suits anymore unless you are wealthy enough to take on the AMA.
The government is already trying to make alternative healthcare illegal.
Most doctors have become inept because of the deliberate ignorance of the hippocratic oath.
The best are already un-affordable.
I've been to emergency rooms. They once tried to charge my wife a thousand dollars for a bandage.
The whole current system is BROKEN. Any alternative, any change, any awakening of public consciousness about the corruption of the medical industry will be welcome.
Illegals have already invaded the ERs. And they have to be treated money or no money. The fact is though, free treatments raise your premium. Follow the money.
Thank you for asking this question for the thousandth time. Please read past answers. Also if you're just on here to spew your ideas this isnt the place for it. Try to start a blog, that seems more appropriate.
In looking at the concerns of people in those countries that have "universal health care" it seems that there are some "universal truths associated with it:
1. The costs are 2 to 4 times the cost of insurance in the USA.
2. Access to a wait list seems to be looked at the same as access to care, it obviously isn't.
3. The wait lists can be years in length, for the short lists!
4. Death from waiting in these countries seems to far outweigh death from no insurance in others.
5. After the wait is over the "care" seems to be non existent unless some money is passed under the table.
I suppose all of those executives making $millions through private healthcare are manging a better system. People are already allowed to die from rationing or delay of healthcare in provate enterprise.
AS for the rest of your rant, it's lame.
Taxes go up..so what? There will be benefits of jobs growing and wages going up without employer paid healthcare. Costs of american goods go down, resulting in more exports. You whining cons about taxes are pathetic.
All you can point out is some of the potential and comparably lesser problems with nationalized healthcare which can be addressed.
