A question to those that are selling health insurance?
Question:
Let's see, your drops cost you $2940/year and you're looking for health insurance for $600/year. Hmmm...
If I think of a company that wants a piece of that, I'll let you know.
First, you won't get coverage for any pre-existing conditions for the first 12 - 24 months of coverage (unless you meet certain guidelines under HIPAA, which is doubtful given your description of the situation.)
It's impossible to recommend health insurance options without knowing your location because companies and plans vary widely by locale.
I can guarantee you, though, that you'll be hard-pressed to find a plan for $50/month, even with a high deductible. (And they're going to either charge you for the pre-existing condition from day one, while still not covering it for 12 - 24 months, or they're going to give you a condition-specific elimination rider.) The fact is, the insurance company also knows how much your prescription costs and they're going to collect enough premium from you to make it worthwhile to take you on as a client in spite of your built-in prescription cost.
This is why you really should shop for insurance BEFORE you find yourself with a pre-existing condition. But if you list a location, we might be able to point you in a direction, at least.
Your eye condition is going to be considered pre-existing, so it won't be covered by any insurance that you purchase right now. For a period of time, charges for the eye condition won't be payable. Your best bet is to call around to some insurance companies, discuss your situation with them, and see what suggestions they have for you.
Ok, I can completely relate to your situation. I was a server and had no type of insurance. I was diagnosed with chronic tonsilitis. I went to the doctor maybe once a month and needed antibiotics all the time. Which got expensive. The state would not help me so I was on my own. I found this company that is not insurance but a discount program. So they accept all pre exsisting conditions.
