Question:
I know someone who really needs to and wants to be seeing a psychologist or counselor or something, however the mother keeps saying its all made up. This person tried to go see the psychologists/counselors on her campus, but they had a really long waiting period and the semesters almost over, and there's no way she would be able to afford normal counseling w/o the family's support. Is there a way for a person to get cheap mental health care, preferably confidentially? And if so, how does one find such a treatment place locally?
Answer:
Try calling all Psychiatrist's office in your area. Ask them if they have a "Sliding Fee Plan" to use. It makes the bill much more workable.
I called Lutheran Family Services here in Omaha, NE and was so poor that I see a Psych. for only $7.50/hr. I see a counselor (who works with the Psych.) for only $10./hr
There are people out there to help you in this situation. Get online and search for them or call them.
Good Luck
You can check for Mental Health Centers that will work based on a person's income- a student is usually free. Also, try some of the 1-800 numbers in the phone book for help to find counseling.
Im having the same problem. I need anxiety medicine of some sort, and no one will see me without insurance or paying thousands of dollars. Im only 20, with a new baby, and definately cant afford it :(
There may be a phone counselling service. The state mental health service may be of some assistance. By the way, her mother sounds like a real dragon. She should be trying to help her daughter out.
