Online and long distance learning - what do you think?

Question:
My husband is in the military. I have finished my undergraduate studies and am looking into graduate schools. I have contemplated taking courses through an online university that is accredited. Can anyone recommend some resources / colleges to help me narrow my choices down?

Answer:
I am currently an undergrad and am in the process of taking an online course through the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I thought it would be a good idea to help me gain some extra credit, and it initially started as a summer course so I could do it on my own time and work full time as well. I did not realize what I got into. After I enrolled, I heard from numerous people that it was not a good idea, and in the end that is what it has turned out to be. The assignments take at least an entire day to complete, but usually 2, and it involves non-stop work. Granted other courses may or may not be this intense.

If you have the opportunity to physically take classes somewhere, I would do it. There is an aspect of learning that you can gain from one on one interactions that an online course cannot offer. I currently attend a Jesuit instituiton, and they have various programs where credits will transfer from institution from instituion between other sister Jesuit schools. I am not sure if state or other private universities have the same type of programs or not. It would allow you to move around the country and if need be and have the credits transferred around.

Good luck with whichever way you decide to go.
What field do you plan to study?

At the graduate level, it goes beyond regional accreditation - many of your future employers will also require that the program you went to have the appropraite professional accreditations. For example, if you want an MBA, you want a school that has AACSB accreditation. If you want interior design, it must be FIDER accredited. Etc.

Be very, very cautious.
I think distance learning education is a new paradigm to earn a n education degree. Maybe you can try below website to get the information. It's about distance learning program articles for your second opinion
