What is the scariest part of American politics?

Question:
The fact that campaigns cost MILLIONS of dollars, and are usually paid for by Corporations and individuals (conflict of interest?)

The fact that every bill passed in Congress is usually loaded with hundreds of millions of dollars of "pork"?

The fact that an issue like Illegal immigration, which is OBVIOUSLY very bad for the country, is getting ignored by both sides because one party's politicians want more votes, and the others want cheap labor?

The fact that people vote based on what drugs a candidate did when young, or how their wife looks, other than their stance on issues?

The fact that we have MILLIONS of sex offenders walking the streets (often legally), but we try to fix other country's problems instead?

OR, is it the fact that, what do we say whenever we go to the polls?
"Who is the lesser of two evils?"!!
We can't even get a good candidate to run, because their opponents tear them apart!

Or is it something else?

Answer:
Summarizing your options;
Politicians are for sale, both parties, before national interests
its the water.the muddy, freekin water.
HAVING BUSH IN THE OFFICE IS THE SCARIEST THING EVER! SEE THERE IS HOPE FOR RETARDS TO BE PRESIDENT!
Probably the fact that politicians don't represent the best interests of the citizens who voted for them. We are now a nation by corps, for corps and we get to rent space here.
Breach of Public Trust

that's it in a nutshell
The scariest part is the envy people like you and Ann Coultergeist express to smart handsome hunks like John Edwards.

EDWARDS 2008
Oh hell! Where's my Prozac?
for 30 years, I know it is something else.

but

what can I do.
I'm crazy.
I think the scariest thing about American politics is our source of information. The media.

I think some of the statements you've made indicate how much we really are not getting told, as compared to what we are getting told. And by whom.

Is it possible to have TOO MUCH information?
The fact that so many believe Bush and his lies!
You pretty much hit the nail on the head.
It's the fact that YOU - and people like you - think that only YOU can vote on "issues" and not on "looks of wife"; that YOU are so much more "enlightened" than than the rabble and masses who vote for THOSE IDIOTS (being, of course, anyone you youself would not vote for).

And it is THAT attitude that the millions of corporate dollars are spent to exploit. That YOU - the enlightened one, who sees the issues so much more clearly than the unenlightened flotsam of society - need to vote for THIS candidate.
I think all of the above...
That they have no perception whatsoever the threat of islamic radicals which starts with the visas they grant to immigrants from somalia etc pple who light war in their countries then pretend to be refugees while theyre making dollars and fuelling war in their own countries
It's all of that, plus more!
The scariest part of American politics is the way no one seems to take it seriously.
1) Gunboat diplomacy
2) Lack of choice in political candidates
3) An absolute refusal by all politicians to look to the future beyond the end of their term
It's the combination of these two facts:

1) The manner in which the person chosen will affect the everyday life of the voters is largely economic.

2) Most voters have no grasp of basic economic concepts, no clue how things work. I don't mean the great debates and the gray areas, I mean the black and white, the basics, like how is unemployment defined, did revenue rise or fall after the tax cuts, how do price controls work, etc...
Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
2 get through this thing called life

Electric word life
It means forever and thats a mighty long time
But Im here 2 tell u
Theres something else
The afterworld

A world of never ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night

So when u call up that shrink in beverly hills
U know the one - dr everythingll be alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby

cuz in this life
Things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life
Youre on your own

And if de-elevator tries 2 bring u down
Go crazy - punch a higher floor

If u dont like the world youre living in
Take a look around u
At least u got friends.

Bush and his friends along with the politicians are only after money ,power and influence .

Talk about rising to the level of incompetency Its possible that bush has brought america down with him as in all his ventures . You have to steal the profits from some place .
The pork, I cannot answer. The immigration, I can: It's a "rule" that we let "everyone" into this country. The fact that yes, we DO vote for candidates, NOT on the issues but on something else, is because we DO have their "women folk" with them. (Yes, we do.) Sex offenders walking the streets? I think you have an earful, my friend. The fact that we do?? Hey, we've got a big country to run! And, there's a big bible belt!
Lots of scary things, but they all boil down to Manifest Destiny and the Monroe Doctrine, which have served as a foundation for American foreign policy since their inception--basically, they call for American world dominance at any cost. That is pretty damn scary.
