Are online accredited college courses legit?

Question:
I am looking at a couple sites and would like to hear from anyone that knows about online college courses.

http://www.belforduniversity.org/...
http://www.elearners.com/colleges/...

Answer:
When considering any online school, check their accreditation at the Council for Higher Education Accreditation website at http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp...

If you do that, you will find that BELFORD UNIVERSITY is NOT ACCREDITED by an agency recognized by the USDE (Department of Education). Most of the other colleges listed at elearners will be accredited. Normally, if a school's homepage does not have a ".edu" domain name, then it is not accredited.

My next recommendation is to try to find an online program in which you are interested at a state school. These will have the benefit of being recognizable and in most cases won't indicate that they were achieved online. The same degree is conferred whether you sat in a seat at the school or in-front of your computer at home.

Another benefit of state school degree programs is that they are cheaper. University of Phoenix charges close to $500 per semester credit hour. University of Wyoming charges $137. The following are some schools for you to consider.

Fort Hays State University - http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/...
Peru State University - http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprog...
University of Wyoming - http://outreach.uwyo.edu/ocp/
American Public University - http://www.apu.apus.edu/index.htm...

All of the above, except for APU, are $130 to $140 per credit hour for online tuition plus books. APU is $250 per credit hour INCLUDING books.

Good luck,
Yes... check these out
charteroak.edu
apus.edu
and Ashford University
Go to the department of education website. They should have a list of accredited schools.
Good Luck!
Belford is a total sham, not a university in any sense of the word, just a seller of worthless diplomas. No classes, no faculty, no curriculum, nothing but a website and a credit card machine.

I am sure they claim some sort of false accreditation, but use the advice above to check out potential schools.

The elearners.com site you mention looks fairly decent, but there are some nationally accredited (a lower level, but real accreditation) school there that you should be wary of.
Yes online college courses are legit for as long as you take them in an accredited online college or university.

See reasons why the college should be accredited:
