My husband & I are interested in buying a '57 356 Speedster Replica, but he is concerned about lack of speed.
Question:
Answer:
if you want a high powered car, the 356 is not the car for you. I would assume thats a similar engine to the 914 engine used. theyre not fast. they arent meant to be. It will be plenty fast enough to cruise around and such, but dont expect it to be a drag racing machine. Youll get around 80-100 hp out of the motor, and on a super light car like that itll be fun.
A 356 is not driven for 0-60 times, or quarter miles. It WILL move out, but the real joy is in DRIVING a Porsche, not just hauling butt to the local 7-11.
I drove a 1.1L 1960 356 and it WAS the funnest car I have ever driven(and I currently own a 1983 911SC and a coupe Benz).
A trick engine might be real cool, since it is a replica, and you would not hurt its value.
In certain tune the Beck Spider is a 13.0 second car in the 1/4 mile(Corvette Territory) so I should think with that 2.0L engine this little thing should have enough to scare the shi...out of you and the driver.
These Kits widely vary in quality however and Beck is just like buying a new car(The Best).
Find out the maker of the replica and who assembled it(owner, a factory, or a shop)
