Are there any laws to stop unsolicited faxes coming to your fax machine?

Question:
I keep getting unsolicited faxes to my fax machine. These faxes usually come in the nature of Real Estate properties in my area. As a Real Estate Broker, I get numerous e-mails regarding these properties. Now I am bombarded with numerous faxes each day with properties of interest from individual real estate people trying to reach out in yet another media. Can I stop these unsolicited faxes coming to me? In my opinion, if there is no contact or contract, then there is no business relationship and I should not have to accept or tolerate these faxes coming in. If there is a law to protect this let me know.

Answer:
Yes, but you may have accidently "solicited" them by advertising without specifying that you do not accept unsolicited advertisements.

Here's what the FCC has to say about it, and how to opt out. You would report them to the FCC if the faxes continue after you follow the opt out procedures.
I don't know if there is a law or not for faxes specifically, but you may try the "do not call" list.
We had this problem when I worked at a PT clinic, only it was for medical devices and such. There is usually a number on the document that you can call to get them stopped if it's from a service.
One company absolutely ignored our request to stop sending them, so we faxed them 100 copies of a black piece of paper. Worked like a charm. lol
