Hi, I am looking to do an online TEFL course, any advice which is the best available? Thanks?
Question:
Answer:
I did an online course with i-to-i (www.onlinetefl.com). Although the course was great and the tutors were excellent I have found that most schools do not consider an online course a real qualification and that you are better off attending a class. i-to-i does offer weekend TEFL courses and most adult education centres also offer TEFL too.
Good luck and enjoy learning!
Go to eslcafe.com and ask your question there, it's the largest and most comprehensive overseas teaching website. They have all kinds of forums, including ones on online TEFL schools...job postings, teacher forums, lesson plans...post your resume...etc. Good luck.
eslcafe.com is a great site...you should look at it if you are interested in doing anything with TEFL, however, i have to warn you that many employers don't recognize online TEFL certifications and the ones that do don't usually require a TEFL certificate at all. If you are interested in teaching abroad, you should really do a 4-week course. The most important part of the tefl certification process is the practice teaching that you don't get with an online certificate. I did TEFL Worldwide in Prague and recommend it. Prague is a ton of fun and cheap so its a great place to spend 4 weeks. TEFL Worldwide was great! I had a really good time training there and loved the trainers. I still keep in touch with them! Go to their website if you are interested: www.teflworldwideprague.com
Best advice I can give. Don't do an online course.
Do one of the 4-week intense courses with a significant teaching section.
Depends where you want to teach, but many schools won't recognise an online course as being a suitable qualification.
