Online Class VS. Traditional Class?

Online -
Pros: Work at your own pace, sometimes liberal time limits to complete a course. Flexible schedule
Cons: Takes dedication. Depending upon school or instructor, coursework may not be challenging enough or engaging enough to properly teach the subject.
Traditional -
Pros: Face-to-face interaction with professors and other students can cover concepts not presented in textbook. Structured, student has to complete necessary coursework by set times.
Cons: Some professors may not adequately cover material. Coursework may not be challenging enough or engaging enough to properly teach the student.
This is just a cursory overview. Some methods of online instruction vary so not all pros and cons will be applicable.
Books are expensive for traditional courses. But you always have them after the course as a reference.
Online courses usually provide the material for you to study. But once your done you don't have it anymore. This is one negative for me.
When you need help it's better to talk in person then in a chat room.
These are some of the big reasons for me.
One may think that Online Classes are more convenient, especially for someone who has a regular job. Pretty hard to argue against that, one can do their work whenever they want to and aren't limited to a schedule.
The question has to do with advantages, I've just named one. A disadvantage is in never really knowing who's teaching the course, not being able to gain instant answers or to have a classroom of other students to interact with, social considerations being a part of the picture.
Finally, credibility....there's growing concern that some online classes never fail anyone and are in it just for the money. I have observed my daughter's course work on one of the most highly advertised, you know which one, I'm sure.
It wasn't bad but didn't even begin to compare to the same subject course that I'd taken in University many years before.
Prospective employers will, take my word for it, much prefer the realtime University grad over the OnLine credentials.
