Take individual LPN or RN courses?

Question:
Was wondering if it's possible to take individual courses at home to become a LPN or RN. Courses from a online university I was thinking. Is it possible and OK to do this? Will I get credit for the course I would take at home? I live in NY so would that be a problem?

Answer:
Most of those 'online universities' such as University of Phoenix, Strayer University, Kaplan U, and Devry U are not looked upon as reputable institutions according to employers. And I would think that it's more valuable to take a class in-person so that questions can be asked of the instructor if need be especially since clinical skills are so important in nursing and allied health.
It would be impossible to take most of the LPN courses at home since there is a lot of clinical instruction that you must be present for.
You can take many of the RN pre-requisites at home but once again you must be present for labs in chemistry, biology, nutrition, etc etc. Then you also have clinicals to attend.
LPN'S ARE BEING PHASED OUT in hospitals,
you may be able to use it in a Nursing Home Situation. Take an RN course and also know that you will be given a certain period of time to obtain your BA/BS Degree.
