Are these online courses legit?

Question:
I see all these advertisements from colleges saying you can get a degree within a year. How do you know for sure if they are not scams?

Answer:
These places usually offer you degrees for life experience. Any accredited college/university does not do this sort of thing.

If you have any questions about accreditation, you can call your State's department of education, or the US Department of Education to find out.
If it is within a year it is probably a scam. Make sure they are accredited by their region's college association.
Wikipedia has a pretty good list of "degree mills" or online "colleges" that will take your money and basically give you a piece of paper that is supposedly a degree. Another good resource these days is Myspace. It wouldn't hurt to look for Alumni of some of these schools and seeing what they are doing with their lives or what their perceptions of the courses are.
