I want to learn how to create webpages/websites. Are there any online courses or books to recommend.?

Question:

Answer:
I started by building my own webpage at angelfire.com

It's totally free, offers a library of basic HTML code and alot of point and click for getting started. I started with a very basic, cookie cutter page, the more interest I put into it the more I learned how to customize things, that knowledge grew and grew until I picked up a program called Virtual Page by Symantec. It is ALSO a very good starting program for the hands-on approach. I played with that and was able to do even more than I had previousely done with Angelfire. From there I've moved on to WebEasy Professional and have just finished a page with a flash video presentation, animated graphics, online registration and store features, background music and downloadable videos.

I'd post the link here as a testimony to what you can do simply by browsing the web with the right frame of mind but it contains adult content so I can't promote it here.

But my point is this...you don't need book learning when it comes to web-pages. The only real effective way to learn HTML and DHTML is through USING it. You can read it all day long in a book but if you haven't SEEN what <img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/ja... </img> actually LOOKS like once it's converted...the book won't make any sense to you.

Once you've learned HTML you can look at tags like that one and instantly have, at least a general idea, of what it stands for...but to get started you have to play with it...alot! It's FUN though and it's SO WORTH IT! Even classes on web design have you working at a computer terminal...not a desk. Start by going to www.angelfire.com and create a free account. Visit the web shell and click create a new page...it walks you through EVERYTHING from there.
if you have microsoft frontpage, i think you can find tutorials somewhere, and flash is easily found on the web.
