Is rocket spanish online course worth the money?

Question:
I was thinking about buying learning spanish like crazy, pimslear or rosetta stone to learn the language spoken in mexico. I then came across rocket spanish and see that it is rated higher by some web sites. Can someone please tell me if rocket spanish is the best course for someone new to the language and studying at home. Also is it a complete course? thanks for the advise.

Answer:
The language that is taught in these courses is the Spanish language of educated people. Predominantly of Spain often. The only true way to learn Spanish I have learned is to speak it and be forced to speak it with someone who speaks only Spanish. I learned my Spanish from Acateca Rain Forest Indian women who only spoke some Spanish and their children who spoke English, Acateca and Spanish. I was forced to learn Spanish to help them and eventually they became my friends and helped me. I had all ready started a class to learn Spanish but I only learned it minimally and as I did not use it regularily I did not retain it well. My teacher suggested that I get a subscription of People in both English and Spanish as that is an excellent way to learn Spanish. As of now I have been speaking Spanish for four years and can communicate now the basics with my relatives in Mexico. But other than that I have not found these types of courses as anything except the rudimentary foundation of learning Spanish. I have taken Spanish in classes, used computer tutoring programs, Cd's with songs and discussions. All helped but not as much as being forced to have to understand what my friends said to me because I cared and needed to interpret for them. There are Spanish chats online, lessons online, etc. Unless you are actually committed and willing to put forth the effort to learn you may not learn anything. So before you invest hundreds of dollars or even thousands like I have in classes make sure you are serious because it can get expensive. You can try volunteering at a local free English program to help foreigners learn English locally. There are many at local churches where I live at. Oh many people in Mexico are Indians they do not speak Spain Spanish they speak predominantly an Indian dialect with some Spanish mixed in. My family in Mexico are Totanacan Indians and they speak some Spanish but it is not the best Spanish with some Totanaca mixed in. I am sure their grandparents spoke Totanaca with some Spanish mixed in. So they speak generally dialects. Depending upon the region and dialect along with level of education and exposure to Spanish may determine if you can understand them and if they can understand you. Many people in Mexico I could not communicate with because they did not speak Spanish that well if at all. What is that line of books they have one in Spanish and they are fairly simple along with easy to learn Spanish made Easy or Spanish for Dummies. Look at the books before you buy them. I purchased many many things to help me learn and I can testify to this most were not worth the money. It seems the courses to teach English along with books for those who speak Spanish as I have read them are better written especially for the prices. I think the least expensive books I have seen for Spanish speaking people learning English were amongst the best I have ever seen because on each page there was a left side of words in Spanish a middle section where they used the Spanish alphabet to pronounce the English word equivalent then the word written in English. It was so close to English this use of alphabet that when my husband said wall it matched the English version so closely that I understood what he said. What he did was studied the language of movies he would turn on the words in either Spanish or English then listen to it in the other language. I do this occassionally also and it matches very closely with translation other than often the words are shorter than the sentences because of the space on the screen. Also often the translator selects a different word that is more appropriate to replace a less socially acceptable word.
