I am looking for the foundation that can help me to establish a social service organization, how can i get?

Question:
I am starting a social service organization named 'Underprivileged Societal Service and Helpful Approach'(USSHA) Foundation Nepal. I am looking for the grant to establish it and take its program forward to serve the society. Any foundations, individuals or organizations interested to support the upcoming organization can cotact me. Every suggestions, advices and help would be taken with high respect and value.

Answer:
Good initiative, I will try and let you know.

may god bless you.
I don't unfortunately have any contacts with foundations but here are some suggestions. It sounds to me like you are starting out -- and since you've posted on AnswersRoom.com, I will presume that you don't have experience with this. If you do, then I apologize in advance if you already know what I will enter in below. You should be commended for wanting to start this project and I wish you best of luck.

1)You need to change your name. USSHA is good -- but in the name "Underprivileged Societal Service and Helpful Approach" -- the "Helpful Approach" part will sound strange to most native English speakers like myself. How about: "the Underprivileged Societal Service and Helping Association"? This makes you sounds a lot more professional.

2)BEFORE you even contact a donor or foundation, you need to do some work. This means: you need to write:
a)A MISSION Statement that describes exactly what your philosophy is, the type of work that you want to do, and how your work will fulfill your philosophy. This needs to be substantial, not just a few lines long.
b)an OPERATIONS Statement: This also needs to be substantial. You need to put together a document listing in detail what your organization is and what SPECIFIC problem you will address. First, let's talk about the problem: who will you help and why is this an important issue? Will you work in Kathmandu? In rural areas? In both? What is the long-term sustainability of your project? How will you help the poor so that they can help themselves? The second part of the document needs to talk about you and the organization: Who are you and how is it that you are qualified to run a NGO? What experiences do you have in your life that make you a good mananger? Please note that you don't need to have previous NGO experience, you just need to show your potential donors that you are sincere and that you have a little bit of experience. Doing little things like volunteering once a week to help the poor can also mean A LOT, so don't discount things like this. Now, for the organization itself: Are you the only person? There is only so much work that you can do alone. If and when you have money, what will you do with it? Will you get an office? Will you hire more people (what skills in people would you look for)? What would be your CONCRETE aims for the next 3-5 years? How would you grow your organization, and what would be your specific projects. And for all of those projects, be very detailed about what you will do, and how you will do it. Also EXTREMELY IMPORTANT -- how will you measure your success. If you claim that the quality of life of the poor will improve, how will you measure that?
c)attached to your Operations Statement, you will need a BUDGET. What is your budget for the next 3-5 years, given your aims and projected growth. This needs to be broken down to list all anticipated expense. Look on the web for examples.
d)Finally, you need a LETTER that is personalized for each organization that you approach. So for instance, if you are asking the Gandhi Foundation (I just made up the name) for money, you need to write a letter that explains why the Gandhi Foundation--given their specific mission--should fund you. You need to, in other words, make a case that your missions are compatible. If your letter is addressed to a small foundation, you might want to add that you are looking for funding from various sources, so that the foundation doesn't feel like they would have to fund everything. (In fact, particularly as you are a new organization, be prepared to accept small donations from various different sources -- people might be afraid to put all their eggs in one basket)

3) No one just gives away money. With the above documents, you will be able to give a donor confidence that their money is actually going to do some good. Once you have everything ready, then you need to start identifying and contacting organizations. Be aware that certain organizations might have their own application procedures in addition to the above.

Also be aware that once you get money and start work, you're going to have to continually report back to the donor, telling them about your results.

Have you thought about USAID? They are a government run aid association. But I don't know which other foundations work in Nepal. Finally be aware that you can also hook up with another NGO. If another NGO is working on a project, if you can help them with it by offering a specific service, and if they have the money, you can actually collaborate on something. This in fact is a very good way to make your organization known.

Note: The idea of putting a budget together for 3-5 years may sound daunting. Just remember that donors know that you will be starting out, and so therefore they know that things may change. You just want to show that you have long-term vision and that you don't plan to just stick around for six months and then give up.

My God grant you success in your noble endeavour!
