TEFL thinking about taking a online course?
Question:
Answer:
I did my T.E.F.L diploma in London. Did one year in Spain. Make sure that this on-line course is accredited.
I have a few friends who have done the TEFL qualification and are working abroad - one in Japan.
As it says here the disadvantage is that by doing the qualification online you don't get real-life classroom experience:
Online courses are designed to give you an insight into the world of TEFL and are helpful if you are not able to take time out of work or get to a certain location to join in a face-to-face course. Online TEFL courses are also some of the cheapest courses available. The disadvantage, of course, is that online courses will not include the real-world experience of observing and/or teaching authentic language classes.
I'm not sure what employers think about 'paper' TEFL qualifications rather than qualifications gained face-to-face as my friends all did some face-to-face to gain experience so they could gauge the age group they wanted to work with.
Don't waste your money and time.
I am a teacher of English in College.
All these online courses have been made to extort your money.
There is no official recognition for this type of course, which means if you going to University Or any other college they will not accept your online certificate.
If you want everything to be official, before going to any course in any college, find out if the college is Accredited by the Oxford or Cambridge Educational Board. If the college is not accredited just find another college.
Most online TEFL courses are just out there to take your money, and many aren't recognized by overseas schools. If your thinking of taking a short course on teaching ESL consider the CELTA or Trinity TESOL. These are the most widely recognized courses worldwide and well worth the money and time you spend on them.
My advice is, if you'd a chance to go to brick & mortar university, it's always better for hands on experiences and human touch
