What will be the resolution display for the local channels when they are all digital in February 2009?

Question:
Right now I have a two channels in HD and they're ABC. The othe rone is displaying in 720p and the other one is displaying in 480i. So, since the other channel is already HD what will happen to it in February 2009? Will it be 1080i or something? I'm kinda confused, Thanks.

Answer:
All channels will be DIGITAL in 2/2009, but the DON'T have to be HD. So, they can still be 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc.
(ATSC specifies about 18 formats, but these 4 are the most common)
Each station can set their own resolution, whether it is 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. To conserve bandwidth and allow more channels, 1080p will most likely not be a highly used standard.

Most TV's can accept either signal and convert it to what your TV can display, or if not a cable box can do the same thing, so there is little to worry about when it comes to your display.
