NBC Universal Television Studio and DIRECTV, the nation’s leading satellite television provider, today announced that the NBC Universal-produced daytime drama Passions has found a new home on DIRECTV where the popular program will continue for a 9th season. Under the new agreement, NBC Universal Television Studio will produce brand-new episodes to air Monday-Thursday on DIRECTV’s original programming channel, The 101. The celebrated daytime drama, which currently averages over 2 million viewers and enjoys an intensely dedicated fan base, will end its network run on NBC September 7 with a series of cliffhangers and will resurface on DIRECTV September 17, picking up where the series left off. The show will remain in its current time slot of 2 PM ET and DIRECTV will air encore marathons of the show each weekend.
"Passions fans no longer need to mourn the demise of their beloved program as it has found new life on DIRECTV," said Eric Shanks, executive vice president of Entertainment for DIRECTV. "We care about this show and are extremely proud to give it an exclusive home here at DIRECTV."
"This new arrangement with DIRECTV is truly a landmark development that allows NBC Universal to extend the Passions brand in a fresh and entirely new way, to DIRECTV’s 16 million homes," said Marc Graboff, president, NBC Universal Television, West Coast. "It will reward the dedicated fans of the daytime drama who can continue to enjoy it on DIRECTV and also opens up a great new model for other television programs to find new life on other non-traditional platforms."
The majority of the cast and crew is expected to return when the one-hour series begins shooting the new DIRECTV episodes in August. DIRECTV will make it easy for Passions viewers to keep track of the happenings in "Harmony" by providing fans free installation, a DVR or HD receiver upgrade, and a portable DVD player by calling a special phone number (866-788-0003) or visiting the Web (www.directv.com/passions) that will give those without DIRECTV plenty of time to switch before the new season begins. Passions fans can also visit www.nbc.com for more information about the show.
Passions will be the first scripted drama series to join The 101 original program lineup which includes viewer favorites like Project MyWorld, The Fizz, havoc on The 101, and Championship Gaming Series. The series will broadcast four one-hour episodes per week, as well as a weekend marathon of that week’s shows so fans can catch up on the action each week.
Passions explores the lives, loves and losses of four core families in the small New England town of Harmony: the Cranes, the Lopez-Fitzgeralds, the Bennetts and the Russells, each of whom have their own distinct and diverse personalities. The series debuted on NBC in 1999 and has routinely been amongst the top daytime programs for women ages 18-34, and currently is tied for #1 among all daytime dramas in both women ages 18-24 and females 12-24.
New episodes of Passions will begin shooting in August and will continue to be taped at the CBS Studio Center in Studio City, Calif. The show is produced by NBC Universal Television Studio in association with Outpost Farms Productions, Inc.

Answer:
Oh this is so sad to actually admit. I live in an apartment building and they won't allow satellite TV. So I am going to pay to put Directv at a house my parents own even though no one lives there just so I can watch it. They are offering a free DVR when you sign up with them so I'll be all set. I'll record them and then spend a day watching the episodes all at once. I have watched the show since it started and am hooked. Can't stop watching now.
I won't switch. I've watch Passions since day one (I haven't seen every episode, but I have been watching/following since the veryyy beginning.), and when it started and I started watching it, I hope to watch/follow it until the end. Then, when NBC cancelled it, I was about to be proud to stick with it through it all. But DirecTV picked it up, and I will not be switching with it. I may try to keep up with it every now and then, but I am pleased with my current cable. Also, I live with my parents, and I am not going to buy my own DirecTV just to watch Passions. At this point, it's not worth it. I will miss it, though, even though I almost wished it did end, just because everything on that show is just so... played and drawn out. I mean, storylines from day one are still going on! It will always have a place in my heart, though. I wanted to get old and have my kids watch it with me, and I would be able to tell them I've been watching since the first episode (which, actually, I have an autographed script of!).
Of Course! I was wondering who would pick them up and happy I want to get Directv and now this is one more reason to do it.
At least you will have a choice.
In Australia, the channel would take it off during school holidays to show kids shows. Then they moved it to 2.00 in the morning. Then they stopped showing it (at the point where Theresa Chad and Whitney were in L.A. and Ethan and Gwen arrived) and started repeating it from the point where the double wedding was called off. None of our cable channels show it.
Unfortunatly this is not "Breaking News" it was announced months ago.
And although I enjoy Passions as a breath of fresh air to the normal soap opera, I will not switch. Not only is Direct TV more expensive where I live, you do not get good reception (according to my neighbor that has it)
I will keep up with it in the soap magazines and online updates, but that is all I will be able to do. I wish they would have put them online instead of on DirectTV that would have probably kept them tons of fans that are like me and cant or wont switch.
I will be sad when its gone..
Definately, I'm sucked in and will be switching from dishnetwork.
Good thing I have direct tv already! Thanks for sharing this!
NO CAUSE ITS GETTING BORING CAUSE THE SECRETS ARE TAKING TOLONG TO COME OUT ...use to beabig passions fan but gettig boring now
No have dish network
i like it but wont switch just because of it
No I would not change what I have now.
I love Passions, but I don't love the show enough to fork over a large DirecTV bill every month. My sister has DirecTV so I will stay tuned in through her and the internet.
