Question about home theater pc setup?

Question: Okay it seems like an interesting enough idea, but if I where to get a HD tv tuner for my pc what type of channels would I be able to access? Just the basic local channels or like the cable channels, HBO, health channel, science discovery channel, G4, etc, or does it all really depend on the tuner?
