Question:
I have a DVI port on the back of my Motorola dct 6416 cabel box and on the back of my tv i have a VGA port, now i have one of those addapters to dvi>vga the question is will i still get my HD channels through the VGA>DVI connection, Reason being i want to free up my component slot, Also if not what are the resolutions a VGA connection can handel.
Answer:
There are two DVI specs; analog and digital.
Your DVI to VGA will work for analog DVI, but I am sure your set-top box is using a digital DVI, so your little adaptor is NOT going to work.
I am surprised your HD TV has no DVI or HDMI port. If it has an HDMI port, use a DVI to HDMI cable and everything will work OK (you just need a separate audio cable as well).
In general, VGA does support HD signals.
