I bought a new lcd tv with a ntsc/atsc/qam tuner. Do I need a cable box to get hd channels still?
Question:
Answer:
To get HD on Time Warner, you need to pay the HD subscription.THEN get an HD BOX or the CABLECARD if you have the CableCard slot..and right now, I hate those cards. They're software buggy.
Box is better.
That's really all you need.
But for Backup, get an antenna...when TW cable goes out due to a wreck or something...you just switch the Autoprogram on and select Air reception and program it.
By the time you get done, Cable will be back on and you can go thru the Autoprogram mode again.(C'mon it'll keep you from getting bored )
Terrestial HDTV programs maybe found on your cable service
However in most cases only 1 of them per channel will be found on your cable
To recieve all of the channels you will need a seperate antenna to recieve them
Suppose your local channel 6 has a HDTV version on channel 13
Your cable company would have NTSC 6 on 6 and HDTV
6-1 on 106
Your ATSC tuner could recieve 6-1 6-2 6-3 etc (on channel 13)
You do not need a cable card for cable reception
You need a cable card for Digital cable reception
and Pay events
check the back of your LCD TV or owners manual
for a Cable Card slot if you have one check with
your cable company NOT ALL use the cards yet.
