How prone to lightning strike is the small TV dish antenna (e.g TataSky) used for direct to home TV reception?

Question:
This question is of relevance to the mushrooming home TV users with their own dish antennae e.g. that of Tata Sky or DISH TV or DTH TV

Answer:
Mount it on the ground and you won't have to worry about strikes.more stable alignment too.

You would have to be the ONLY Home within a 30 mile radius in the Flatlands to get struck.
Those dishes should all be installed professionally and grounded to the residence's electric panel at the very least. Alterrnatively, a 5/8" eight foot long ground rod and #6AWG ground wire used.
Mostly lightning likes to strike the highest/best conductor in the vicinity-usually a long skinny pole-like structure'll get the hit before the rounded surfaces of a satellite dish. In no way does this eliminate your dish as a potential target-make sure its' properly installed or it could at least fry your TV set.
To reiterate what TV Tech-man says , your chances of the dish being struck are exactly the same as the chimney or anything else that sticks up from the ground . Don`t worry .
Cheers Pete
