My 1080p HDTV looks like crap to me.?

Question:
I just bought a very expensive flat panel 1080p hdtv and TV channels look like crap to me. I dont get it. They just look like a stretched version of a poor quality image. The image is unclear. My old tube tv gave a better image. Even the "HD" channels don't look that great, except some of the sports channels. My DVD's look pretty good though. I just don't get it.

Answer:
Probably because you are watching non-HD standard format (4:3) programming that is being forced to work in a wide-format upconverted HD mode of operation. Non-High def video, especially digital non-high def like what you get from standard digital satellite recivers like Dish or Direct TV appear worse in larger high def screens because the digital video errors are only expanded and can be seen easier on bigger tv's. Stretching these images doesn't help either. Suggest you match the video settings appropriately to your video source. If you get a high def box as your TV source, you'll see the differrence when you switch between high def channels and non-high def.
hm, it can depend. maybe you should call customer service of the brand and ask them why this is happening? i have a huge screen tv and some channels look better than the others, like the sport channels for instance but i would take the tv back if i were you or just call customer service and ask them what's up.
You might need an HD tuner, and/or an HD antenna.
