I have a Sony HDTV and a Motorola 6412, my HD channels are great. I changed my cable and connectors.?

Question:
I still have a grainy picture. Is this because I have a HDTV?

Answer:
So the Grainy images are only on your NON-HD channels? If that is the case, that is to be expected because Standard Definition channels have MUCH less detail to show, so the TV is trying to scale up the images. Think about using the digital zoom on a digital camera... Basically what it is doing is stretching the pixels out in order to fill the screen. The best thing you can do is change your TV's aspect ratio when you are watching Standard Def. channels to 4x3 (black bars on the left and right sides) and back to 16x9 (widescreen) when watching High Def. channels.

Hope this helps!
How are you getting the channels to your TV? Are you going through a cable company like comcast or RCN? Or are you getting it through the air with antennae?

If you have a cable company, call them up and get them to fix it. It's probably a bad noisy signal.

If you have an antennae, then your out of luck. Through the air signals are not the best and are spotty at times. It depends on your area. Your HDTV converter box (if you have one) could have a filter in it to get ride of those extra noise which is the grainy in the picture.

Well at least you know grainy picture is cause by noise and there are several ways to solve it. Sometimes, you can get yourself an UPS (uninterruptable power supply) and that can get you more reliable and less fluctuating power which could reduce the noise.

Good luck.
