HDTV and Cable Packages?

Question:
My mom wants to buy a new TV, and she wants it to be an HDTV. When we get the HD package, will it affect or cable channels. Like, right now, 131 is The N--will channel 131 stay the same when we switch?

Because not all our TVs are HD compatible, like the one in my room. And I like our cable package now.

Answer:
We went through that. If you have the cable package without the HDTV capability all of your TVs will not get HDTV channels. If you switch to a smarter (but more expensive) cable box that comes with the HDTV package, then the HDTV will get the HD pictures and the others will still get only regular (standard definition) channels. We got the HD package and found that it was a special at our cable company so we paid less per month and it includes the DVR. Once you get a DVR you can never go back!
