HDTV and Cable Packages?

Question:
My mom wants to buy a new TV, and she wants it to be an HDTV. When we get the HD package, will it affect or cable channels. Like, right now, 131 is The N--will channel 131 stay the same when we switch?

Because not all our TVs are HD compatible, like the one in my room. And I like our cable package now

Answer:
In addition to the above, cable companies usually pack all of the HD channels together in a certain range or channels - on TimeWarner it is in 700 range. Ch02 is 702 in HD, Ch11 is 711, etc.
So you channel 131 N--- should stay 131N...
Your current channels will not be impacted. If you get an HD TV then you would need an HD-compatible digital box to bring in the additional HD channels, however the other TVs with standard equipment will continue to bring in the standard definition channels that you are already receiving.
You get all of your normal channels and new HD channels. Be sure you are using HD equipment (DVI if you have that option) or you will not be able to fully enjoy HD channels.
Just make sure you upgrade your cable box or get an hd reciever you can have as many HDTV's as you what but if the signal is not HD you will get no picture change.
