High Definition TV Question?
Question:
Answer:
Most HD cable boxes do have a standard def output. So the answer to your question is yes, it is possible to watch HD on your SDTV. Like you said, the quality won't be the same, but you should get the letterbox format.
If you have an SDTV with a component input, you should be able to set your cable box to output 480p over the component connection.
If your TV has only composite or s-video input, look on your box for something labeled 'Output 2' or 'VCR' or something like that. Those should be SD outputs.
If it's actual CABLE, they tranmit SD channels and HD channels...the HD cable box selects the HD and can still pickup SD...
On your SD TV set, it'll get all the SD stations, but if you want HD, then you need another box to get the HD stations IN SD format!
no, you cannot watch hd channels on your sdtv. Your SDTV does not support 720p or higher. If you try to view HD channel from your cable box on your SDTV, all you going to get is a blank screen. HD cable channels will only work for TV that supports 720p or higher. Hope this help.
It depends on the HD set top box you're using, but most high definition boxes I've seen in Australia generally have S-Video or RCA composite output which will downconvert the high definition video to 480i/576i standard definition. Most boxes I've seen here also have an option as to which display mode you want, i.e. 4:3 set with content letterboxed, 4:3 set with content pan and scanned and anamorphic mode for 16:9 sets.
