I just bought a Samsung 37" LCD TV. How come the picture quality is grainy still?

Question:
It has 5000:1 contrast ratio and 720p clarity. Is this a good LCD TV? I bought it at Wal-Mart for around $1200. Anyway, do I have to upgrade to the HD package with my cable provider to access the available HD channels? Is this the only way to enjoy the true HDTV clarity? Do I need to buy an HDMI cable for the upgrade? Also, how long do these LCD's last? Do you have to trash them when they go out, or can you replace certain parts? Thanks.

Answer:
You do not need an HDMI cable. Yes, analog, old analog cable is terible on hi def tv's. You need to just get the digital cable with the HD. That is the only way u will get a good picture on the TV.

Or you can get a DVD player which upconverts. 720p is a fine tv. It is what I have, and it resizes the 1080 HDTV signal to fit and looks awesome!!
720p is not the best in HD 1080p is!
"Do I have to upgrade to the HD package with my cable provider to access the available HD channels?"

YES. Not doing so means you are looking at SDTV or even analog cable. You need a HDTV source to enjoy HDTV pictures.

Component cable is okay and some prefer it to HDMI. With some sets HDMI can be a troublesome issue (but that problem might have disappeared with newer hardware, was a problem with sets purchased a few years ago and new HD-DVD or possibly Blue Ray DVD players).
