On this picture, why is there a goofy line at the top?

Question:
This is an HD channel from my Comcast Digital Cable Motorola DCT5100. It is delivered to my HDTV via component cables. None of the other TVs with cable boxes in my house have this problem.

Answer:
That line you see is the SMPTE (simp-tee) Time code.

It's used to synchronize network transmissions across the USA.

Since your TV is recieving an HD show in "shadowbox" format, the TV station is showing "one line too many" in it's transmission. You shouldn't be seeing that line, but you are. And there isn't anything wrong with your TV, it's the TV station that needs to adjust it's timing to make that line disappear..

I've seen it several times on various TV sets and various channels too.

I guess it's just the "growing pains" of HDTV signals..

One day, it'll be gone. But for now we just have to live with it.
maybe it's haunted
LOL TV Tech man

of the screen
